The hottest October weather ever boosts tourism in the UK as people flock to resorts on the south coast such as Bournemouth and Brighton for the weekend. But, will history repeat itself this coming winter? The previous hottest October was in 1985 but it was immediately followed by the second coldest February of the 20th century and the wettest August Bank Holiday.

Bournemouth Hotels Full Due to Hot Weather Forecast

In the days leading up to the weekend of October 1, 2011, high pressure settled over the UK leading to rising temperatures and clear blue skies. The prospect of a hot weekend after a mediocre summer was good news for UK tourism – particularly southern seaside towns like Brighton and Bournemouth.

Speaking on Julian Clegg’s BBC Radio Solent show on the morning of Friday September 30, 2011, Michael Regenhardt, General Manager of Bournemouth Highcliffe Marriott Hotel, confirmed that the prospect of unseasonably warm weather meant that guest bookings were up by saying “… over the past week we have seen excellent uptake in our occupancy and most hotels are full this weekend.”
