Chris Prentiss' book The Alcohol and Addiction Cure preys on the very weakness so common among alcoholics and addicts. A common character thread ruling addictive-natured people is the desire to find an easier and faster way to deal with adversity. It is also the greatest desire of every alcoholic or addict to learn to drink or use responsibly. In the interim, people are dying.
No Such Thing as the Alcohol and Addiction Cure
The very nature of alcohol and drug addiction dictates the inherent need for a quick fix. Minimizing emotional pain and evading hardship are the hallmark traits of an alcoholic or addict. So the idea of buying a book, in essence the wave of a magical wand, is very appealing to those suffering from a disease of addiction.
In a much talked about article written by Mark Groubert, the writer accuses Chris Prentiss of being the equivalent of a snake oil salesman. Groubert claims that his book and treatment center elicit false hopes of being able to 'buy the cure' for alcoholism and drug addiction.
