Making headline news, 33 rescued Chilean miners are now being released from the hospital. All but three are in remarkably good health.

Looking like international celebrities in their sunglasses to protect their fragile eyes from painful light, the miners joined Chile's happy president, Sebastian Pinera for historic photographs in Copiapo Hospital, near the mine where they spent the previous 69 uncertain days.

Rescued Miners and Health Issues

Two of the rescued miners are suffering from silicosis, a lung disease, and one has been diagnosed with pneumonia. Mario Gomez, the oldest of the group at age 62, is said to be responding well to the antibiotics to treat his pneumonia.

Gum infections were found in two of the rescued men, and one was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer. It seems they are responding well to natural light, however most kept their sunglasses on.

Chilean Miners Personal Stories

Cheers of joy erupted when the shift leader, Luis Urzua, 54, was the final man to be brought to the surface during the rescue.

One of the miners, Yonni Barrios, was found to be cheating on his wife of 28 years. The wife, Marta, knew that her husband had been rescued, he was well, and that was good enough for her. She had not watched the rescue on television or visited her surfaced husband.
