Consisting of buildings brought to the 90-acre site from all over the state, plus a number of reconstructions, this living history museum is one of the most authentic in the American Southwest. Though work on the project was begun in the early 1960s, it wasn't until February, 1969 that Pioneer Arizona held its official opening ceremonies.
Museum visitors soon learn that life in 19th Century Arizona was pretty much a no-frills affair – especially if they take a horse-drawn wagon ride around town. The road is authentic down to its ruts and dust. The wagon’s benches are of unpadded wood – an incentive to get out and explore the buildings and grounds on foot.
