For over 40,000 years, the Indigenous people of Australia who live in the bush, consumed a balanced diet consisting of a wide variety of vegetables, roots and creatures which can be found in the wild, known as ‘bush tucker’. Bush tucker, or the more modern term ‘Bush Food’ consists of ants, spiders, goannas, locusts, snakes, emus, kangaroos, crocodiles and yabbies.

Honey ants are a favourite to the Aborigines and in the heat of the desert, The women would dig deeply with shovels and billycans to uncover the ants that stored honey dew in their swollen abdomens. To eat the honey ant, The Aborigines hold the insect by its head and bite the honey infused stomach.
